The Opposite End of the Spectrum

While personally and, I suppose, for the purpose of this project, I find the appearances of people like Thelma Malna (http://lookbook.nu/user/31846-Thelma-M/looks)Lua P (http://lookbook.nu/user/18883-Lua-P/looks), and Masha Sedgwick (http://lookbook.nu/user/60494-Masha-S/looks) more interesting than a beauty stereotype, I suppose I would also have to offer the opposite end of the spectrum. It seems only right.

So after perusing LOOKBOOK a little, the website of a popular South African clothing store, Mr Price, and a popular South African teen girl magazine, Saltwater Girl, I came up with this collection of photos. Don't ask me to say anything about them except "it's for research" and "these kinds of things are alien to me".

  1. Even some of your mainstream choices are a little out there. I know you're looking more specifically at the female options but there are one or two of the males on lookbook with a good bit of alternative fashion to their name. Take a look at this guy who wears a lot of old fashioned suits http://lookbook.nu/user/1832325-D-C/looks or Charlieo Vandenbergio http://lookbook.nu/user/739419-Charlieo-V/looks who has irritating hair but an interesting use of bowties, boots and his dog. This blog is very cool though

    1. Which mainstream choices do you think are "out there"? They all seem rather bland and uninteresting to me. I'll go check those things out, if you check out Lua P. She's amazing (or at least her appearance is)... she's the redhead.

  3. I'd go for the first one and the one where the two girls have the same outfit. Not so much for the clothing but more for the photography. Particularly the doppelganger picture because it seems to sum up modern schools of thought in which we have a driven need to be original but copy all our ideas from the same scource. The first post is interesting though because it is epitimal hipster fashion and a few years ago would've been labled as counter culture. It shows what can happen when industry locks onto an idea as the entire idea behind being a hipster is now destroyed. Maybe these pictures not so much "out there" as I previously stated but could rather be considered as meaningful. I checked out Lua P and loved her but I Personally prefer Masha Sedgewick because of her hair colour and the faint hint of rebellion and mystery in her outfits. Anastasia Siantar is somewhat of a middle ground. Check her out

  4. And Violet E. Low quality camera, simple outfits, interesting back drops
